Our Wildflower Projects: Botanica & WWF

Nature needs our help. That’s why Botanica and WWF are working together on ‘Let’s Bring Nature Back’: a project where we’re planting wildflowers and conserving British wildflower habitats, so that nature can thrive once more. That way we all win; we can help our natural wildflowers, support the species that need them, and continue enjoying nature’s lush scents for years to come.

Growing together

We want to make a difference, but we know we can’t do it alone. By teaming up with WWF, Botanica can better support the restoration and protection of 20 million square feet of wildflower habitats. To do this, we’ll be working closely on the ground with local partners in the Midlands, East Anglia and the Welsh Borders.

Giving back to nature

Nature provides us with more than just incredible scents: it is home to a host of native species that keep our ecosystems balanced. Wildflower conservation and restoration not only helps to increase the amount of pollen and nectar for bees and other pollinators, it also plays a vital role in improving water quality, carbon sequestration and natural flood management by improving soils. We’ll be working on a range of projects, growing wildflowers on road verges, in local farms, schools, and floodplains. We’ll build relationships with private and public landowners to hand pick sites that will benefit both nature and local communities.

From farm to wildflower haven

In the headwaters of the River Soar catchment in Leicestershire lies Halstead Hill Farm, which has historically had very little biodiversity due to conventional agricultural practices. With help from local partner Trent Rivers Trust, we will create a flower sanctuary on land that is being developed as an agroforestry area. A range of beautiful wildflower species will grow along the lines of fruit trees, making Halstead Hill Farm a haven for pollinating insects and other wildlife.

Planting for the future

It takes time and preparation for nature to flourish, but preserving, restoring, and creating wildflower meadows is worth the wait. We’re committed to finding the perfect locations where conditions are just right to create beautiful, flower-rich meadows. Where possible, we’ll harvest wildflower seeds from local sources to sow into our new meadows, to ensure the species are perfectly adapted to the conditions. Our projects began in 2021 and will run until the end of 2023; kick-starting the process of conserving and creating wildflower habitats for current and future generations to enjoy.
